The event included a signing roundtable, which gave people an opportunity to hear about the pathway that each new Canadian took toward citizenship, and an official citizenship ceremony, the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC) reported.
Halifax Mayor Mike Savage stated that holding a citizenship ceremony at Pier 21 on Canada Day is very special for him.
“The swearing of new Canadians on this day in this place is a very special thing for me and I know it’s a very special day for all of these new Canadians who are excited. I think everyone in the country should go to one of these one day,” he declared.
He further stated that, “To see the pride in their faces on a day like today and waving the flag, singing the anthem in both official languages, it’s been special.”
This ceremony is one of 60 Canadian citizenship ceremonies that will be held across the country by the ICC and Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) this year.
