The Mercer survey lists Canada’s largest cities ahead of most U.S. cities in quality of living. The human resources firm noted Canada’s high levels of personal safety as the main reason for the top ranking. Out of 230 cities on the global report, Vancouver placed fifth overall, the same as last year. The only cities ahead of Vancouver were Auckland, Zurich, Vienna, and Munich. The last ranked city was Baghdad. BecomeACanadian and its team of professionals are ready to help you apply for the correct visa to work and live in Canada. The highest ranked city in the U.S. was in 28th place, which was San Francisco. Mercer included personal safety into the mix for this year’s survey. It was joined by other categories such as medical and health issues, the social and cultural environment, economic conditions, education, and housing and recreation. A leader of Mercer’s team in Canada, Gordon Frost, said, “Canada’s major cities continue to be much safer than every U.S. counterpart. This is extremely appealing for expatriate employees looking to bring their families with them as they move abroad for work.” Five Canadian cities were ranked in the survey, and all were placed at 16th worldwide for personal safety.
